University of Leeds Visits SUSTech to Discuss Joint Education Program

Stephen Scott, University of Leeds’s Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences met with Professor Tang Tao, Vice President of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) on May 20, during which the both sides exchanged views on joint education programs and research collaboration in mathematics, physical sciences, engineering and environment at SUSTech.

Tang introduced SSUSTech’s strategic development plan in terms of its mission and goal (to become a world-class research-oriented university), the development of disciplines, and student training (undergraduate and postgraduate). Directors from the Graduate School and Global Engagement office made presentations on graduate education modes and international collaboration.

SUSTech’s international education and outstanding research ability earned recognition from the University of Leeds.

After the meeting, three professors the University of Leeds held separate talks with our chemistry department and mathematics department.


The University of Leeds is a redbrick university located in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Originally named the Yorkshire College of Science and later simply the Yorkshire College, it incorporated the Leeds School of Medicine and became part of the federal Victoria University alongside Owens College (which eventually became the University of Manchester) and University College Liverpool (which became the University of Liverpool).In 1904, a royal charter, created in 1903, was granted to the University of Leeds by King Edward VII.
